Best hotels in Istanbul: The Bank Hotel.
An Istanbul hotel for families with period elegance, an atmospheric restaurant, a hammam, and views of the Golden Horn. Built in a former bank in the now-hip, waterfront Karaköy area, this is the latest in a succession of flawlessly stylish hotels from the House company.
Where is The Bank Hotel located?
Karaköy is one of Istanbul’s trendiest neighborhoods, a bustling waterfront mix of fish markets, ferry terminals, plumbers merchants, and ship chandlers’ all fighting for space with a new crop of bohemian art galleries, stylish cafes, and cool cafés. From the fascinating Jewish Museum to the Ottoman-era Azaz Kap Mosque, and the Ottoman Bank Museum (next to the hotel) to the Art Nouveau Kamondo Steps, the neighborhood is rich with interesting sights.
A scenic trip across the Galata Bridge to the ancient city’s mosques and bazaars is highly recommended; alternatively, take the T1 tram (the Karaköy stop is about two minutes’ walk downhill from the hotel).
The landmark Galata Tower and the entertainment neighborhood of Beyolu are just a short walk up through a maze of narrow alleys in the opposite direction – or take the quaint late 19th-century underground funicular, which has an entrance just three or four minutes away.
Services and Facilities
The Vault is small enough that staff can rapidly come to know their customers, creating a welcoming ambiance, but service is calm and professional. White shirts, black ties, and trousers are worn by the males, while black skirts and white blouses are worn by the women. In the basement, there’s a modest but modern exercise center, as well as two saunas (one for men, one for women), a small hammam, and a treatment area for massages and facials.
Rooms at The Bank Hotel
There are accommodations to suit all likes and budgets, with seven different types to choose from. High ceilings, paneled wooden doors, parquet floors, tall, thin windows, and original cast-iron radiators, as well as Carrera marble baths, give most rooms a characterful vintage atmosphere. However, modern conveniences like as iPod docks, coffee machines, goose-down duvets, large televisions, remote-controlled drapes, and complimentary tea and coffee-making facilities have not been overlooked. Excellent level and rain showers, as well as a selection of good quality products and fluffy white robes and towels, are provided in the smart but not overly huge Carrara marble bathrooms.
