Alanya located about 150 km east of the city of Antalya is a popular seaside resort in southern Turkey, the Turkish Riviera, where you find some of the best beaches in Turkey, to the east and west of Alanya.
The Mediterranean climate, natural attractions, and historic heritage makes Alanya a popular destination for tourism. Like most cities in Turkey, Alanya has an old town where you can find many old houses, towers and mosques, as well as a nice small harbour. At the waterfront there are many friendly bars, tea-houses, cafes and restaurants with an excellent range of international and traditional cuisine.
One of the symbols of Alanya is the impressive 14th century citadel with quaint houses, mosques and a Byzantine church decorated with frescoes. Below the citadel you can find sea caves and grottoes. One of the top things to do in Alanya is visiting the “Damlataş (Cape of dripping stones)” cave, a beautiful cave with impressive stalactites and stalagmites with a moist warm atmosphere said to benefit asthma sufferers.
Beside its cultural and historical sights, Alanya has an unbeatable beach life. Beautiful sandy Cleopatra beach lies to the west of the resort while the fine sands of Alanya beach stretch to the east. Warm-weather sporting events and cultural festivals take place annually in Alanya.
